Flat Classroom® Project 12-2 Multimedia Meta-Awards
These go to the best multimedia works overall from the 11 topic winners in each group.
About our Meta-judge:
Our meta-judge for this project is Dr. Craig Union. Craig Union, a recent graduate of the Flat Classroom Certified Teacher Course, serves as a researcher and Technology Advocate for
technology integration into global collaborations. He earned his PhD in Educational Technology from Walden University, his first Master’s degree in Educational Leadership/Education and Training Management with an emphasis on Instructional Technology from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, and a second Master’s degree in Military Operational Art and Science from the Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Alabama, and a Bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. A retired Naval Officer, he has 21 years of middle- and top-management experience, including several leadership positions as an officer in the United States Navy. He owns and operates Union Security Service (USS), which provides executive-level security to high-end clientele in the Atlanta, GA area. Current research projects include research on the Flat Classroom project, involving global collaborations that use Web 2.0 technologies to help reduce ethnocentrism in cross-cultural classrooms from a teacher and student perspective and research that involves a grant to buy eReaders (Nooks from Barnes and Noble) for 25 third-grade students at Lawrenceville Elementary school to examine how the use of eReaders affects student achievement. Finally, he has served as a Classroom Advisor or Judge for over 10 Flat Classroom projects.
Final comments from Craig Union
I am honored to be the judge of such a great project. These amazing videos are indicative of a lot of hard work, innovation, creativity, and technical expertise. I’ve been judging videos for over four years and these are by far the most advanced videos to date. When viewing your videos, your passion for being a part of the Flat Classroom revolution resonated. I was not only entertained as I watched all of your videos, I also felt that all of you used your 21st Century skills to enhance and support learning by being actively engaged in the learning process. Thank you for all of your hard work and I look forward to working with you in the future.
Design and Technical Quality:
The design and technical quality descriptors were impressive for the winning videos. The winners exhibited a good mix of text, voice, video, photos, and music; superior sound quality and balance; timely special effects and transitions; and expert clip editing. Of note was the appropriate use of either music or voice-over used to solidify, support and enhance the extremely meaningful and powerful content area of each winning video. Additionally, the pinpoint edits, smooth transitions, and the creative special effects blew me away. For example, the smoke in one of the top videos, although subtle, helped to set the mood and was considered pure genius. With these videos you have proven that you are prepared for jobs that maximize the use of the internet, jobs that use different multimedia tools, and most importantly, jobs that haven’t even been created yet.
Synthesis and Construction of Ideas:
The synthesis and construction of ideas in these videos demonstrated higher-order and critical thinking. Your topics were not easy by any means and you still managed to ensure that each of your videos fit each of their themes. Your synthesis of information was well documented as you all did a great job of acknowledging your research in the credits. There were very few errors and technical glitches because your stories were well written and I could tell that each of you put a lot of effort in ensuring that your videos were smooth from beginning to end. Finally, one of the major premises of this project is to collaborate. All of the winning videos used and had evidence of an outsourced video and this information was included in the credits. Great job!

Title of video: India Redefined
6.D.1 India Redefined - AllenM_SVHS
Comments:
This video provides the average training and job of an Indian call center employee and demonstrates how outsourcing has revolutionized jobs across the globe.
The story line for this video is very intriguing, interesting and thought provoking. From the start, it hits you with an eye-opening statistic that “1.4 billion Indians are employed in outsourced jobs.” Subsequently, more important facts are provided.
Great job going from Rakesh training to become a call center employee to Peter planning a trip to both of them negotiating. Additionally, the music for each of these sections is very fitting and helps to set the tone.
Smooth, clever, and creative transitions and edits. Very creative use of outsourced videos as it has multiple videos on the same screen. Great acting. Finally, the use of the smoke was brilliant! It was subtle but it set the tone. It was like they were stepping out the fog and making their entrance into your living room.
This video is all that, and a bag of chips!! ;o) Great job!!

Title of video: A World Against Bullying
2.E.1 - "A World Against Bullying" - LexiS_SVHS USA
Comments:
This video provides a world against bullying and how the internet can help kids who are bullied.
Delivering a powerful message, this video uses candid, funny, and real life outsourced videos mixed with a symphony statement by Pink 134 and the very serious Voices of Malala situation in Pakistan to establish its point.
Great job by the actors demonstrating how bullying can occur at school.
Good mix of music that is fitting. The transitions and edits are very clear and concise. Displaying your typing of responses on different social media and the bloopers at the end were a very nice touch.

9.B.3 "The Mobile Revolution" By GrantG_VHS
Title of videos: Bricks and Clicks and The Mobile Revolution
8.C.2 Bricks and Clicks - MorganS-WHS-B
Comments:
This video discusses PLEs, Social Networking and Social Entrepreneur.
First of all, I love the smoove and upbeat instrumental. With what you were doing by displaying the different ways of showing your text, the music was perfect and it kept me engaged throughout the whole video. Great choice of music!
The video delivers a strong message on the difference between Bricks and Clicks and how they are a part of the PLE and the impact of social networks.
This video could have been place higher but the slide that begins with, Studies show that 1 out of 10 kids, did not show long enough for me to read. Also, the outsourced video seemed like it was just stuck in the video to fill the requirement.
Overall, good job!

Comments:
This video discusses the story, growth and change of mobile technology.
This story line flowed nicely and was very intriguing. The pictures of the older phones were very interesting. I like the history slides showing what happened between 1985 and 1996. I especially like the Hologram demonstration slide!
Good use of the outsourced video, nice powerful voice, smooth transitions and clear editing.
